A northern California interstate reopened to morning commuters Thursday nearly a full day after SWAT officers from numerous agencies surrounded a motel where a stabbing suspect had barricaded himself.
The California Highway Patrol reopened Interstate 580 in San Rafael between Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Highway 101 early Thursday. Officers had surrounded an Extended Stay motel beginning Wednesday morning, after officers tracked Peter James Thomas, 38, to the location.
