An outraged Indianapolis Metro Police Chief Paul Ciesielski told a local media outlet his department has "declared war" on the suspect(s) who shot an officer in a drive-by on Saturday.

On Monday, Officer Dustin Carmack was resting at home, after leaving the hospital Sunday evening. The officer was shot in the hip on Friday evening while filling out paper work sitting in his squad car in front of a Westside liquor store.

"I can't tell you how angry I am right now," Chief Ciesielski told WISH-TV on Friday. "I don't like to use the word 'war' because we're not soldiers, but we just declared war on some thugs or some drug dealers or whoever it was who's responsible for this."

Earlier on Friday, officers had broken up a fight among several juveniles in the neighborhood. While officers were questioning the suspects five to seven shots were fired — one round went through Officer Carmack's seat striking him. The officer has been on the force since February 2010.
