The 100 Club of Arizona, a law enforcement group that supports officers and their families, will host a scholarship ball and golf tournament later this month named in honor of a Phoenix Police officer critically injured on duty.

The fifth annual Jason Schechterle Scholarship Ball on Sept. 24 will be paired with the first-ever Jason Schechterle Golf Tournament on Sept. 23.

The events are named in honor of the courage of Jason Schechterle, a former Phoenix Police officer who suffered critical injuries after being trapped in a fiery crash on March 26, 2001. The officer was in his patrol car, when he was struck by an out-of-control taxi and trapped for 90 minutes, suffering third- and fourth-degree burns to his head, neck, and arms. Schechterle gives inspiration talks about his experience, including his 52 surgeries.
