Lorenzo Pollard, who escaped Friday from the St. Louis city workhouse, was arrested without incident shortly before 8:30 p.m. Sunday as he walked at 21st and Branch streets, police said.

A police officer with the Central Patrol Special Operations Group recognized Pollard and took him into custody, said Lt. Scott Boyher.

Pollard had escaped Friday after fighting off more than a dozen correctional officers with nun-chucks fashioned from bed sheets and a chair in his jail cell at the medium-security facility at 7600 Hall Street.
