Ind. Teen Turns Self In With Cuffs, After Escaping From Squad

A sergeant at the Indiana State Police's Lowell Post had a surprisingly easy arrest, when an 18-year-old man turned himself in while still wearing the handcuffs used by a deputy to detain him.

Zachary A. Keilman walked into Lowell Post at 2 p.m. Thursday, and told Sgt. Alan Jamerson he believed he was wanted on a warrant. He then showed the sergeant his wrists, which each had a handcuff and a cut chain attached to them.

Keilman had been detained by a Newton County Sheriff's Department deputy on Wednesday evening. He escaped from the rear of the cruiser, had someone cut the handcuff chain, and then realized he had left his identification in the cruiser.
