The New York Police officer now on trial for rape described a homeless man as a "male white," which may provide a clue that he was an officer rather than a tourist calling to complain about a homeless man.
Prosecutors contend that two officers, Kenneth Moreno and Franklin L. Mata, placed the call on Dec. 7, 2008, as a ruse to have themselves assigned to answer the call, and instead visiting the East 13th Street apartment of a drunken woman who later accused the officers of rape, reports the New York Times.
