Sheriff Joe: Reorganizing Office Will Restore Pride

In his final report, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu called for the resignation of the commanders of the Maricopa County Anti-Corruption Enforcement, or MACE, unit. The report details the six-month investigation that revealed 50 allegations of misconduct.

Maricopa County (Ariz.) Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced a reorganization of his operation, following the release of an investigative report that accused a trio of commanders of playing by their own rules.

In a final report chronicling his investigation of Sheriff Joe's office, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu called for the resignation of commanders assigned to the Maricopa County Anti-Corruption Enforcement, or MACE, unit.

The report, which is more than 1,000 pages, details Sheriff Babeu's six-month investigation that revealed 50 allegations of misconduct. The report essentially reveals a pattern of deception and claims the unit overstepped its bounds while investigating corruption in county government.

Two of the deputies have left the office, and the third has been placed on administrative leave.
