Lightning Strikes Missouri Officer In Tornado Response

Lightning struck the area near where Officer Jeff Taylor, 31, was riding an ATV, after transporting a fire commander back to a command post. Officer Taylor was transported to a Springfield hospital and treated for burns and other injuries.

A Riverside (Mo.) Police officer assisting rescue efforts in Joplin was struck by lightning, and is now under medical evaluation.

On Monday, two Joplin officers were injured, one critically, when they were struck by lightning. The officers were on duty at 20th and Connecticut, when they were struck.
