Drunk Driver Arrested In Killing of Houston Cop

While interviewing a witness involved in a hit-and-run accident early Sunday, Houston Police Officer Kevin Will was struck and killed by a drunk driver weaving around emergency vehicles and a police barrier while intoxicated.

While interviewing a witness involved in a hit-and-run accident early Sunday, Houston Police Officer Kevin Will was struck and killed by a drunk driver weaving around emergency vehicles and a police barrier while intoxicated.

The driver of the Volkswagen that struck Officer Will at about 3:15 a.m. has been identified as 26-year-old Johoan Rodriguez, who was traveling east on the North Loop when his car struck the officer near the Yale exit.

Rodriguez has been charged with intoxication manslaughter of a peace officer, felony evading and possession of a controlled substance, which was identified by police as cocaine. In addition, Immigration and Customs Enforcement is investigating his citizenship status.

Officer Will, 38, had been with the department since September of 2009.
