Will’s last words were a shouted warning that saved the life of a civilian witness Will was interviewing as Johoan Rodriguez’s vehicle crashed through a police barrier and barreled toward them. Rodriguez has been charged in connection with Will’s death.

Kevin Scott Will quit his job in the banking industry and took a pay cut to become a Houston police officer in March 2009. The 37-year-old found his calling in police work, recently married, and was expecting a baby boy in the coming months.

On Sunday his life was cut short by a suspected drunken driver on the North Loop, but not before one final act of heroism.
