Everett (Wash.) Police Chief Jim Scharf has fired an officer who was cleared of murder after a jury trial, citing the officer's "unacceptable misconduct."
Chief Scharf fired Troy Meade, who has not returned to duty following his exoneration in April of 2010 in the fatal shooting of Niles Meservey in 2009. Meade fatally shot Meservey in a parking lot of a restaurant as he was behind the wheel of a Corvette. Meade testified that he feared for his life as Meservey backed toward him and fired eight shots.
Chief Scharf said Meade didn't consider other force options and didn't face an imminent threat.
