A civilian Good Samaritan pulled a Detroit Police sergeant out of his burning cruiser this morning, after the officer lost control of the vehicle on I-96 near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

James Clark, 38, pulled the officer around 4:30 a.m. today, after hearing what sounded like a small explosion of the car hitting the median on Detroit's west side.

The officer, a 17-year veteran of the department, is in stable condition.
