U.S. Sen. Charles Shumer has begun lobbying for New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly to head the FBI in September, when Robert Mueller steps down after 10 years in the post.

U.S. Sen. Charles Shumer has begun lobbying for New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly to head the FBI in September, when Robert Mueller steps down after 10 years in the post.

"I think the country needs him," Schumer tells the New York Daily News. "Ray Kelly is a world-class choice and he's at the top of the list, whether it's fighting terrorism, drug crime or street crime."
