Contra Costa (Calif.) County prosecutors have dropped charges against a madam because a state narcotics agent serving as their main witness has been charged with stealing drugs from evidence lockers.

Norman Wielsch, a state Department of Justice agent, was arrested Feb. 16 and charged with 25 felony counts connected to the alleged theft of methamphetamine, marijuana, steroids and prescription pills, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

Until last month, Wielsch, 49, commanded the multiagency Central Contra Costa Narcotics Enforcement Team.
