NLEOMF Will Add 317 Officers To Memorial In May

Of the 317 officers, 153 were killed in the line of duty in 2010. An additional 164 officers, who fell in previous years, have been discovered and vetted by the memorial fund's research department.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund will add the names of 317 officers who died in the line of duty to the national law enforcement officers memorial in Washington, D.C., this year, according to the fund.

This year, the names of 317 men and women added to the memorial will bring the total number of officers honored by NLEOMF and killed in the line of duty throughout history to 19,299. Of the 317 officers, 153 were killed in the line of duty in 2010. An additional 164 officers, who fell in previous years, have been discovered and vetted by the memorial fund's research department.

The fund's central mission is to honor the sacrifice and service of the nation's peace officers, especially our fallen heroes.

Part of NLEOMF's mission is to "permanently record and appropriately commemorate the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers," according to NLEOMF. The officers will be formally honored at NLEOMF's annual candlelight vigil on May 13 at the memorial.
