In the aftermath of an alleged videotaped beating of a motorcyclist in South Dallas, Police Chief David Brown has announced additional steps he is taking to ensure a more "equal distribution of experienced officers" in the department's patrol bureau.

To that end, Brown has decided that probationary police officers and probationary senior corporals will not be allowed to participate in what's known as "the patrol bid," a process by which patrol officers select which station, shift and days they will work.
