2011 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV Now Equipped With StabiliTrak

Using three key sensors, StabiliTrak works by comparing the driver's intentions (indicated by steering-wheel position) with how the vehicle is responding. It then selectively applies the individual brakes needed to help keep the vehicle on the intended course.

The 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe Police Patrol Vehicle will arrive with StabiliTrak, the company's electronic stability control technology that provides enhanced safety during high-risk driving situations, General Motors has announced.

Using three key sensors, StabiliTrak works by comparing the driver's intentions (indicated by steering-wheel position) with how the vehicle is responding. It then selectively applies the individual brakes needed to address yaw and help keep the vehicle on the intended course.

Barry Walkup, General Motors development engineer, explains the technology in this video:

Chevrolet typically offers LE agencies two versions of the Tahoe SUV in — a pursuit-rated two-wheel and higher-off-the-ground all-wheel drive version.

The Chevrolet SUV is powered with a 5.3-liter, V8 with six-speed automatic transmission. The two-wheel version is rated at 15 MPG and 17 MPG city/highway; the all-wheel is rated at 15/21 MPG city/highway.

The four-wheel version carries a slightly higher price tag. Both carry a 5-year/100,000 limited powertrain warranty.
