Napolitano Gives Full Carry to Federal Protective Service Officers

The Department of Homeland Security secretary took action on a recommendation from the DHS Federal Law Enforcement Advisory Board.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has granted Federal Protective Service (FPS) law enforcement officers full firearm carry authority, reports FedAgent.com.

Previously, FPS officers were limited to only carrying firearms while on duty and many had to check in their weapons before heading off-site.

Napolitano took action on a recommendation from the DHS Federal Law Enforcement Advisory Board that includes representatives from the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA), the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) and National Border Patrol Council (NBPC).

"Thanks to the strong leadership of Secretary Napolitano, FPS law enforcement officers will be prepared to better defend and protect the American citizenry," said Jon Adler, FLEOA president.
