New York Police Department officers fired fewer bullets on duty in 2009 than any yeear since 1971, when the department began keeping records, reports the New York Daily News.
The department also tied the record (set in 2008) for the fewest officer-involved shootings with 105. The majority of the 47 incidents where cops shot at suspects last year were in the Bronx and northern Brooklyn.
By contrast, cops fired 2,113 bullets in 1971 and killed 93 people.
