Judge Orders Public Release of Charlotte Officer's Personnel File

With the release of the records, the public gained access to the personnel files of a North Carolina police officer for the first time since the signing of an Oct. 1 law giving the public more information about government employees.

The judge overseeing the trial of a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer who has been accused of sexually assaulting six women while on duty ordered the release of the officer's personnel file, reports the Charlotte Observer.

With the release of the records, the public gained access to the personnel files of a North Carolina police officer — CMPD Officer Marcus Jackson is facing the charges — for the first time.

On Oct. 1, Gov. Bev Perdue signed into law signed into law reforms making public more information on government employees, including termination letters and the dates and type of demotions, suspensions, promotions and other job changes.
