Seattle Officer Cleared In Punching of Jaywalker

The department's Office of Professional Accountability (OPA) concluded that the officer performed his duties within the scope of department policies and procedures.

The Seattle Police Department has cleared Officer Ian Walsh, who was caught on camera punching a teenage jaywalker who had grabbed him.

The department's Office of Professional Accountability (OPA) investigated the force used by Officer Walsh during a June 14 incident and arrest. The OPA received the complaint, and thoroughly investigated it by interviewing witnesses and reviewing the tactics used by Officer Walsh, according to a statement at the Seattle PD Website.

The OPA concluded that the officer performed his duties within the scope of department policies and procedures. Chief John Diaz concurred with that finding.
