The St. Louis Police Department is investigating one of its officers captured on video striking a man with a retractable baton, using pepper spray and handcuffing the man, yet failing to file a police report.
Officer Dustin Ries, 37, was taken off the streets on Tuesday, while the department investigates the matter, reports the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
The encounter occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on New Year's Day at a Shell gas station, after the subject told the officer to, "Shut Up." Ries was off duty and providing security from a substation on the property.
