Idaho State Police Staffed at 1977 Levels

Idaho State Police troopers are patroling at 1977 staffing levels even though the state's population has grown 75 percent since then, reports the Spokesman-Review.

Col. Jerry Russell, ISP chief, told lawmakers that of his current patrol force of 150 authorized positions, six are investigators, and there are 33 vacancies. He hopes to hire 11 positions this year at a cost of $55,000 per job.
