Police ID Man Shot By BART, Oakland PD After Foot Pursuit

Fred Collins led five officers on a foot pursuit from the Bay Area Rapid Transit's (BART) Fruitville Station in Oakland. He had yelled "shoot me, shoot me, shoot me," to officers, who initially tried to stun him with TASERs.

Fred Collins, a 48-year-old man with a prior arrest for assaulting an officer, was fatally shot Saturday, after he lunged at offcers with a knife in each hand, reports SFGate.com.

Collins led five officers on a foot pursuit from the Bay Area Rapid Transit's (BART) Fruitville Station in Oakland. He had yelled "shoot me, shoot me, shoot me," to officers, who initially tried to stun him with TASERs.

The station was also the place, where former BART officer Johannes Mehserle fatally shot Oscar Grant III in Jan. 1, 2009. Mehserle was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and will be sentenced Nov. 5.
