Denver's Public Safety Manager Resigns Over Officer Discipline

Ron Perea's resignation came after a meeting with Mayor John Hickenlooper, who has called in the FBI to investigate the arrest.

Denver's Manager of Safety Ron Perea resigned Monday over public outrage about his decision to allow two officers to remain on the force who were shown on videotape roughing up and arresting a man talking on a cell phone, the Denver Post reports.

Officer Devin Sparks lost a day of pay and Officer Randy Murr was suspected for three days for their roles in the arrest of Michael DeHerrera, a 24-year-old son of a sheriff's deputy, outside a downtown nightclub in April 2009.

Perea's resignation came after a meeting with Mayor John Hickenlooper, who has called in the FBI to investigate the arrest.
