Louisiana Detective's Domestic Battery Allegations Imperil Drug Case

Domestic battery charges have come to light involving the lead detective in St. Charles (La.) Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne's year-long drug operation, causing charges to be dropped against 60 of 100 suspects.

Domestic battery charges have come to light involving the lead detective in St. Charles (La.) Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne's year-long drug operation, causing charges to be dropped against 60 of 100 suspects, the Times-Picayune reports.

During a press conference, Champagne announced he's dropping the charges against the suspects.

Det. Elijah Gary of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office conducted the undercover drug buys. Since the operation, authorities have learned that Gary was arrested and charged with simple battery against a former girlfriend with whom he has two children. Gary never notified the Sheriff's Office about the charge.
