A 23-year-old man who shot and killed a Phoenix police officer who was attempting to arrest him at a check-cashing store in 2007 will face the death penalty, reports AZCentral.com.

On July 27, 2007, Edward James Rose was caught on surveillance video attempting to cash a stolen and forged check. As Rose left the store, Officer George Cortez snapped a handcuff on Rose's left wrist. Rose then pulled a .40-caliber pistol from his waistband and shot the officer twice in the head.
