Seattle Officer Describes Shooting of Lakewood Police Killer Clemmons

Two days after he was struck by a bullet from one of four officers he shot in a coffee shop ambush, Maurice Clemmons was struck by four of seven bullets fired by Seattle police officer Benjamin Kelly, who described the shooting at an inquest today.

Two days after he was struck by a bullet from one of four officers he shot in a coffee shop ambush, Maurice Clemmons was struck by four of seven bullets fired by Seattle police officer Benjamin Kelly, who described the shooting at an inquest today.

Kelly told the six-person panel he feared for his life as he confronted Clemmons on a quiet residential street while investigating a report of a stolen car.

Clemmons ignored several commands to remove his hands from his waistband area as he approached Kelly in the dark, the officer said.

On Nov. 29, Clemmons killed Lakewood Police Sgt. Mark Renninger and Officers Ronald Owens, Tina Griswold and Greg Richards. A round fired from Richards' duty pistol struck Clemmons, who had that officer's gun on him when met by Kelly.
