Portland Settles Sexual Harassment Suit With Fired Cadet

Portand elected leaders are expected to recommend paying $170,000 to settle a lawsuit from a fired police recruit claiming she was a victim of sexual harassment and discrimination, OregonLive.com reports.

While training at the state police academy, Nicole Whitley, who was fired in May 2006, says she was asked by a lieutenant to wear additional layers of clothing.

An instructor had complained that her "nipples showed through her uniform during training the previous day,'' according to the lawsuit. She was later fired for performance deficiencies.
