Safariland Adds NIJ Standard-0101.06 Body Armor Model

The HP01 Type II is part of the ABA, Xtreme Series for concealable armor and was tested against the 9mm and .357 mag. The HP01 Type II is a hybrid armor design featuring Geometric technology and Curv framing.

Safariland has released another armor model that satisfies the requirements of the National Institute of Justice's (NIJ) new Voluntary Body Armor Compliance Testing Program under NIJ Standard-0101.06 (NIJ-06), according to the company.

The HP01 Type II is part of the ABA, Xtreme Series for concealable armor and was tested against the 9mm and .357 mag. The HP01 Type II is a hybrid armor design featuring Geometric technology and Curv framing. In addition, the HP01 combines "state-of-the-art ballistic material with the high performance of Honeywell Gold Shield, the increased tensile strength of DSM Dyneema and the trusted performance of Twaron Microlaminate ballistic materials," according to Safariland.

The body armor provides enhanced ballistic performance and reinforced protection along the spine, sternum and lower torso. The HP01 Type II is one of the company's lightest, thinnest body armor vests available.

"The legacy of Xtreme continues with our latest high performance, thin and lightweight HP01," said Scott O'Brien, Safariland's president. "Standing on this legacy, the Xtreme Series HP01 is one of the most desirable armor models available under our current family of armor solutions. We are proud of the continued growth of our armor product line and the benefits it continues to offer the law enforcement community."

The NIJ introduced the "Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor NIJ Standard-0101.06" to establish minimum performance requirements and test methods for the ballistic resistance of personal body armor.

According to the new NIJ-06 standard, body armor must now be able to defend against increased velocities of ammunition calibers to better reflect current street threats and law enforcement duty weapons.

All Safariland concealable armor models are certified using NIJ approved size templates C1 and C5, which offer law enforcement the widest range of production sizes available. In addition to these models, the following Safariland products are available and posted to the NIJ Compliant Products List (CPL).
