Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday for Nye County (Nev.) Sheriff's Deputy Ian Deutch, who was shot and killed responding to a domestic dispute that spilled into a Nevada casino, the Las Vegas Sun reports.

Deutch, a member of the Nevada Army National Guard, was on his second day of duty after returning from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

He was fatally shot by James Lacy Chaffin, who had fired an SKS carbine at his girlfriend who ran into Terrible's Lakeside Casino & RV Park in Pahrump.

Deputy Deutch was struck by three rounds from the SKS—a Soviet 7.62x39mm caliber semi-automatic carbine—that penetrated his body armor. A third responding Nye deputy then shot and killed Chaffin.
