The FBI has filed an affidavit accusng a South Carolina sheriff of using his department-issued SUV to possess and distribute cocaine, WIS TV reports.
Lee County Sheriff E.J. Melvin is accused of distributing the drugs using his Ford Expedition patrol vehicle and protecting drug dealers who sold the product.
The FBI described Melvin as a "middle man" who talked about arresting drug traffickers to confiscate their drugs for re-sale. Federal agents obtained wire-tap recordings of Melvin talking to two dealers on his cell phone.
