Detroit Police Choose Former Casino As New HQ

Detroit city officials will spend $53 million to purchase and renovate the former MGM Grand Detroit Casino as a headquarters for the city's police and fire departments, as well as a crime lab.

Detroit city officials will spend $53 million to purchase and renovate the former MGM Grand Detroit Casino as a headquarters for the city's police and fire departments, as well as a crime lab, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The move must still be approved by the City Council.

The Michigan State Police will operate the crime lab. A Detroit PD lab was shut down in 2008 due to a high error rate in firearms cases.
