Apollo 13 Commander Lovell Delivers Keynote at APCO Conference

The Association of Public- Safety Communications Officials (APCO) announced today that key speakers such as Jim Lovell, Frank Miles and John Chappelear will be the key note speakers at this year's conference. These speakers will address the subjects of stress reduction, change and achieving goals.

Astronaut Jim Lovell will appear as the keynote speaker at the annual conference of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International.

Lovell and others were announced today as speakers for APCO's 76th Annual Conference and Exposition next month in Houston.

Forty years ago, astronaut Jim Lovell safely commanded Apollo 13 through an explosion, caused by the oxygen system inside the aircraft, articulating the now famous, "Houston, we have a problem."

At his keynote at this year's opening session, at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 2, Captain Lovell will inspire attendees with the story of his journey.

The next day at the conference, Frank Miles will use juggling, magic, unicycling and fire-eating to help attendees address the issues of stress, change, and achieving goals. Following this, John Chappelear will explain "the daily six," a simple process to reduce stress and enhance productivity by living positively.

"Through these sessions and others, our educational tracks and the networking opportunities, attendees are sure to walk away from this conference with the tools and knowledge that make them better public safety professionals," said Richard Mirgon, APCO International's president.

The APCO International 76th Annual Conference and Exposition is scheduled for Aug. 1-4 in Houston.
