Miami City Manager Pete Hernandez will interview four candidates early this week to replace outgoing Miami Police Chief John Timoney, with a final decision expected by week's end.
The four candidates: Assistant Chief Adam L. Burden, Assistant Chief Thomas W. Cannon, Maj. Manuel Orosa and Maj. Miguel Exposito, according to Mayor Tomás Regalado. Hernandez has requested personnel files and Internal Affairs profiles to prepare for the interviews.
No outside candidates are being considered. Notably absent from the list, Deputy Chief Frank Fernandez, Timoney's No. 2.
Multiple law enforcement agencies—local and federal—reportedly responded to the incident, and Aurora Police now say five officers were shot and wounded in the incident that left five workers at the business and the gunman dead. The injured officers are reportedly stable.
