700 Attend Vigil for Slain Lakewood Officers

The vigil was quickly arranged by leaders of a 6,000-strong nondenominational and charismatic church in Tacoma after they learned that four Lakewood police officers had been shot and killed Sunday morning.

The upbeat music of an electric guitar rolled softly through the parking lots of Champions Centre on Tacoma’s East Side on Sunday evening as some 700 people gathered in prayer and somber thanksgiving.

The vigil was quickly arranged by leaders of the 6,000-strong nondenominational and charismatic church after they learned that four Lakewood police officers had been shot and killed Sunday morning.

Gathered outside the entrance of the church, strangers and members of the congregation alike embraced, comforted one another and held candles distributed by ushers.
