Officer Kim Munley, one of two civilian officers who helped end the Fort Hood shooting spree, says she is unlikely to return to patrol duties.

Munley made the announcement to a North Carolina television station and posted it to her Twitter page. In a Nov. 30 tweet, Munley wrote that a knee replacement surgery would be needed. She would need to carry a 15- to 25-pound pack that would cause it to wear out sooner.

"OK verdict in: total knee replacement first week of Jan," Munley tweeted. "Probably no more law [enforcement], but things happen for a reason, and I'm sure there is one."

Munley told the television outlet she hopes to find a position as a law enforcement trainer, the New York Times reports.
