SHOT Show 2010: SIG Sauer's SIG516 Will Offer Select Fire For Officers

The SIG516 rifles are gas-piston operated with a three-position (four-position optional) gas regulator; the design keeps the receiver free of firing residue for optimum reliability under adverse conditions and extended firing.

When it arrives in the spring, SIG Sauer's SIG516 tactical rifle line for law enforcement officers will offer semi-auto and select fire variants, according to the company.

SIG introduced the rifle line at SHOT Show in Las Vegas, and will also make a civilian version.

The SIG516 rifles are gas-piston operated with a three-position (four-position optional) gas regulator; the design keeps the receiver free of firing residue for optimum reliability under adverse conditions and extended firing, according to SIG.

An optional three-burst mode is accessible with the fire control/safety selector that includes an ambidextrous design.

The line includes the SIG516 10-inch Close Quarters Battle (CQB), the SIG516 14.5-inch Tactical Patrol, the SIG516 16-inch Patrol, the SIG516 18-inch Precision Sniper, the SIG516 20-inch Precision Sniper, and SIG516 7-inch Personal Defense Weapon (PDW).

They come with a free-floating, aluminum quad rail fore end with four M1913 Picatinny rails for lighting and laser-mounted options. Barrels are chrome-lined and cold-hammer forged with a Nitride finish for durability and corrosion resistance.

The 18-inch and 20-inch Precision Sniper models feature heavy match barrels. The muzzle is threaded with a standard (0.5x28TPI) pattern to accommodate a variety of flash suppressors, muzzle brakes, and sound suppressor devices.

The lower and upper receivers are machined from aircraft-grade aluminum forging. The upper provides an M1913 Picatinny rail to accommodate a variety of optical sights. The upper and lower receivers feature a black, hard-coat anodized finish. Optional backup iron sights are available.
