Palo Alto Police Will Restrict TASER Use

The same week San Francisco police learned they would not be given TASER devices, another northern California agency has told its officers they may only use their TASER when confronted with an "immediate physical threat."

The Palo Alto Police Department's policy as currently written allows officers to use force that "reasonably appears necessary, given the facts and circumstances perceived by the officer at the time of the event, to bring an incident under control."

Palo Alto police began carrying TASER devices in 2007 and now carry the X26, Palo Alto Online reports.
