Chicago Police Say Gunman Killed After Shooting Four

Officers shot and killed a gunman Wednesday night after he opened fire in a convenience store in the South Shore neighborhood, then fled and pointed his weapon at pursuing police, Chicago police said.

Officers shot and killed a gunman Wednesday night after he opened fire in a convenience store in the South Shore neighborhood, then fled and pointed his weapon at pursuing police, Chicago police said.

The gunman, identified this morning as Dashaun Winston, 18, wounded four people--two men in the store and a woman and a teenage boy outside, police said. The incident occurred about 7 p.m. when Grand Crossing District officers saw an "armed offender" running from the 2100 block of East 71st Street, said Asst. Deputy Supt. Ernest Brown.
