The St. Louis Board of Police Commissioners apologized and agreed to pay damages to four people who were among those detained or searched because they intended to protest genetically modified crops at the 2003 World Agriculture Forum.
The four — Trinity Cross, Mary Hastings, Alistair Stewart and Arthur Friedrich — were the last standing in a lawsuit that 25 people filed in May 2005 in St. Louis federal court. They claimed that police damaged their property, performed illegal searches and inappropriately arrested them.
Multiple law enforcement agencies—local and federal—reportedly responded to the incident, and Aurora Police now say five officers were shot and wounded in the incident that left five workers at the business and the gunman dead. The injured officers are reportedly stable.
