The LAPHS was honored by the SDPHS for its assistance in opening the San Diego Police Museum. The museum at 4710 College Ave. in San Diego opened last December in a renovated branch library building that had been acquire by the San Diego PD.
The museum's collection includes a wide variety of artifacts from the 120-year history of the department, including a handwritten crime log from 1889, antique firearms and uniforms, early radio dispatch equipment, and historic photos of officers at work. Admission is free.
LAPHS executives who were honored at the SDPHS dinner include: Retired LAPD captain and LAPHS chairman Greg Meyer, former LAPD detective sergeant and best-selling author Joseph Wambaugh who serves on the LAPHS Board of Governors, retired LAPD chief Daryl F. Gates who serves on the LAPHS Board of Governors, retired LAPD commander Keith Bushey who serves on the LAPHS Board of Directors, and retired LAPD detective and LAPHS founder Richard Kalk.
