Former Minnesota corrections officer Ron Jansen intends to use his recent appointment to the Independent Living Council of Wisconsin to promote reassignment of those in public safety who are injured in the line of duty.

Forced to medically retire from the Minnesota Department of Corrections after 28 years of service because of a leg injury, Jansen, who now lives in North Hudson, Wis., believes he and others like him possess knowledge and skills that would still make them valuable assets to others in their field.

Jansen says his personal goal as one of 18 members on the Independent Living Council is to help corrections, law enforcement, and emergency services personnel who are injured on the job to stay employed with the agency they are serving.

According to the organization's Website, www.ilcw.org, "The ILCW promotes self determination and full inclusion of people with disabilities in Wisconsin."
