American Body Armor Announces New Dyneema and Twaron Vest at TREXPO West Meeting

ABA’s new Torq 61 vest is constructed of multiple layers of Teijin Twaron and DSM Dyneema SB61. The result is a thin, lightweight bullet-resistant vest that not only stops handgun rounds, but also resists the twisting action that results when a bullet strikes most body armor.

Dyneema SB61 is a unidirectional nonwoven composite material that is more efficient in distributing energy than conventional woven fabrics. It is weight-per-weight 15 times stronger than steel and 40 percent stronger than aramid fibers. The result is a vest that spreads back face deformation over a wider, shallower area, reducing the blunt trauma experienced by the wearer.

The Torq 61 is available in NIJ Level II and Level IIIA.
