9/11 Heroes Contracting Blood Cancer

An outbreak of what appears to be a blood cancer cluster has afflicted a number of 9/11 responders, including law enforcement officers, construction workers, and volunteers.

Fox News has reported that an outbreak of what appears to be a blood cancer cluster has afflicted a number of 9/11 responders, including law enforcement officers, construction workers, and volunteers.

The cancer purportedly is striking the individuals at an alarmingly young age. Renowned doctors examining the cancer cases suspect that an unprecedented "synergistic mix" of toxins surrounding the World Trade Center (WTC) site is the culprit.

"The kind of thing that worries us is that we have a handful of cases of multiple myeloma in very young individuals ... a condition that almost always presents late in life," said Dr. Robin Herbert, co-director of the program at Mount Sinai Hospital. "That's the kind of odd, unusual and troubling finding that we are seeing already."

While the WTC Medical Monitoring Program is currently studying the cancer-ridden Ground Zero group, previously its primary focus had been upon detecting individuals with respiratory ailments.
