Human Identification Technologies (HIT), a private forensic casework DNA testing and consulting laboratory, has achieved recognition as the first ASCLD/LAB-International accredited DNA laboratory in California.

"From this day forward, all of the DNA profiles generated by our laboratory will be eligible for entry into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS)," says HIT President Blaine Kern of the accreditation's significance.

Originally founded by former government forensic laboratory criminalists to assist with the overwhelming backlog of DNA cases in the nation's justice system, the company offers a standard 10- to 20-day turnaround time on criminal forensic DNA casework.

HIT currently houses eight forensic scientists in a 7,000-square-foot facility. With the increased caseload expected to be generated from this accreditation milestone, the company plans to begin preparations for a second facility capable of accommodating 100 forensic scientists.
