A Shelbyville, Ind., officer was killed earlier this week when two rear dual tires and wheels fell off of a tractor-trailer truck.

Sgt. Gary Henderson, 51, was struck by the truck parts while he stood on a ramp to State Road 44 off I-74. He had been sent to the location to provide backup for a Shelby County sheriff’s deputy who had made a traffic stop on a suspected stolen vehicle. He was reportedly taking photos of the scene when he was killed.

Police say that the tractor-trailer was going past the scene at about 11:40 p.m. when the rear passenger side tires and wheels came off the trailer. The driver was stopped some three miles down the road. He was apparently unaware of the accident. Charges are not expected.
