Officer-Involved Crash Kills Two in Maryland

A multiple-vehicle accident involving a Mount Ranier, Md., police officer killed two people in Largo Wednesday morning.

A multiple-vehicle accident involving a Mount Ranier, Md., police officer killed two people in Largo Wednesday morning.

Maryland State Police investigators are looking into the cause of the accident.

A Maryland State Police press release says that the Mount Ranier officer was traveling southbound on Route 202 when a Chrysler PT Cruiser heading northbound made a left turn across traffic and the two cars collided.

Witnesses told local media that the crash was "extremely violent" and that both vehicles went airborne at impact.

Two women in the PT Cruiser—Barbara V. Hagans, 69, and Lillie B. Rowe, 78—were killed.

The officer was slightly injured. His name was not released at presstime

"It was nothing life-threatening, but he's pretty shaken up as you could expect," Mount Ranier Police Chief Michael Scott told the Largo Gazette.

A crash investigation will not be completed for about 30 days, according to a state police spokesman.
