Adams has herself collected thousands of used wireless phones and chargers through phone recycling drives held in conjunction with the Richmond PD. The collected phones have been donated to the HopeLine program, which recycles and sells the devices and then donates cash and cell phones to benefit domestic violence victims. The program also donates airtime to domestic violence prevention programs and service providers.
Adams was 17 when her mother died on New Year’s Eve in 1980. She was deeply affected by her loss and has spent much of her life crusading for domestic violence prevention. Now, the Orine Adams Playground will help children affected by domestic violence.
