“It’s a good feeling to be recognized,” says Regier. “Even though we may work behind the scenes, as 9-1-1 dispatchers we’re the first line of defense in any emergency.”
Judges listened to tapes of 9-1-1 calls and reviewed dispatch records to rank nominees’ professionalism, ability to function under stress, and adherence to protocols, particularly under extraordinary circumstances or in cases involving a difficult caller. Candidates also received points for teamwork, involvement in education, and initiative in furthering the profession.
The NAED Dispatcher of the Year award was created to identify and recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to further the values and mission of the Academies through personal action. This award is given annually to the NAED certified emergency dispatcher who has most successfully exemplified the values and mission of the Academies.
